From Kilcullen village head SW along R448 which crosses over the M9 motorway.Take the signposted left after crossing the motorway keeping on the R448 (towards Kilgowan) all the way until you reach the Priory restaurant on your left.Take the left immediately before the Priory and follow road and at first V junction take a right turn uphill towards the concrete yard as mentioned in other posts.Climb the fence and keep right following the edge of the field until you reach a gate on your right .Turn right through the gate keeping the boundary on your left now until you reach the mast on your left.About 10/15 metres before this mast you will see the fence on your left clears of brush to allow access to the field where the copse of trees mark the top.Also at the top just before the trees is a small plaque.Fine views are awarded for such a small hike.

Striking copse of pine trees at the summit

We parked at the recommended starting point A (N83809 01556), taking care not to block the gate. We squeezed through the locked gate. The first field was only slightly muddy in frosty conditions and had evidence of a harvested crop. We made our way up the right-hand edge before cutting across the top of the field to cross a barbed-wire fence.
The second field was grassy and we walked straight up towards a metal gate leading to the summit field.
The summit is marked by a striking copse of tall pine trees that, when viewed from a distance, seem to float above the hilltop. The trees shelter some large stones, possibly the remains of a stone circle. Beside the trees are two lines of earth workings, perhaps an inner and outer perimeter of a hill fort.
From the summit there was a fine view back towards the snow-covered peaks of the central Wicklow Mountains, glistening in bright sunshine.
Less than 2km return on moderately even ground with minimal ascent. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1261/comment/24079/

Trees mark the top of hill

Drive on old road south from Kilcullen, once across the motorway bridge take first right and than right again. Halfway up the hill you will see on right hand side a double gate with concrete yard A (N83809 01556)) Park here and proceed through field towards the trees on top. Cross fence and climb small incline to the trees.
